President Trump Is Finally Ending Canada's Free Ride

The White House

Canada has been ripping off the United States for decades — and President Donald J. Trump is done letting them get away with it. Last week, the U.S. offered Canada the most preferential market access of any country on Earth, with deep cuts on steel, aluminum, autos, lumber, and more. Instead of partnership, Canada chose unreasonable demands, walk-backs, and flat-out rejection.

The record of Canadian abuse is clear and deliberate:

FACT: Canada is joined only by the People's Republic of China in choosing retaliation over negotiation. Their continued discriminatory treatment of U.S. commerce has burdened American workers, farmers, and businesses.

FACT: Canada alone imposed discriminatory 25% tariffs and company-specific quotas on U.S. motor vehicles — measures applied to no other country. As a result, U.S. vehicle exports to Canada crashed 22% over the last year.

FACT: Canada banned American wine, beer, and spirits in nearly every province and territory — while other countries have faced no such restrictions. As a result, U.S. alcohol exports to Canada collapsed 81% in a single year.

FACT: Canada locks out U.S. dairy with tariff-rate quotas far more restrictive than those given to Europe, plus over-quota tariffs of nearly 300% — rates so extreme they function as a near-total ban and rank among the highest agricultural tariffs in the developed world.

FACT: Canada has extracted a persistent average annual goods trade deficit of roughly $50 billion from the U.S. over the last decade — while refusing reciprocal access.

FACT: Canada targeted American aerospace manufacturer Gulfstream for years. They effectively prohibited the sale of its G500, G600, G700, and G800 models while shielding its own competitor — until President Trump intervened.

FACT: Canada's protectionist barriers — discriminatory auto quotas, alcohol bans, and dairy lockouts — have hammered American companies. This has cost U.S. producers billions in lost sales, forced layoffs, and driven market share to foreign competitors who face none of the same restrictions.

FACT: Without the United States, Canada could not survive. Canada sends roughly three-quarters of all its goods exports to America — and the U.S. market is where Canada gets the overwhelming majority of its money and economic oxygen.

FACT: Canada's failed trade policies are driving its own manufacturers south. A recent survey found 42% of Canadian manufacturers have already moved or are planning to move production to the U.S.

FACT: Canada is doubling down on tariffs targeting American workers. Canada just announced an additional $27.6 billion in tariffs on American businesses — including a 50% tariff on American steel and aluminum, a 25% tariff on American fish, and a 25% tariff on American tools.

FACT: The U.S. economy is approximately 13 times larger than the Canadian economy and home to over eight times as many people. The United States has the clear leverage.

President Trump said it best: "Canada is easily the most difficult and unreasonable. They feel entitled, but they are not a State, and will be entitled no longer!" Canadian leadership chose retaliation over partnership — and America is no longer willing to carry them.

Let me tell you what landed on the White House website this morning, because it's going to be read on Fox by tonight as if it were handed down on stone tablets, and it's garbage.


It's called "President Trump Is Finally Ending Canada's Free Ride." It has the word FACT in capital letters twelve times. In my experience, the number of times somebody types FACT in caps is roughly proportional to how nervous they are about the facts.

So I did what the U.S. press corps should have done before lunch. I pulled every claim, followed every link, and checked it against the sources they used, the sources they skipped, and what Mark Carney actually said Saturday when he sent the negotiators home.

Here's the scorecard.

Twelve claims. Real numbers on most of them. And a story wrapped around each number that falls apart the second you touch it.

The "most preferential market access of any country on Earth"

That's the framing at the top. The offer of the century, and ungrateful Canada spat on it.

Here's the offer, in Jamieson Greer's own words on CNBC Monday: cut the steel and aluminum tariffs in half, "extensively" reduce autos, and give a little on softwood lumber. Bloomberg had the auto number at 15 percent, down from 25.

So the greatest deal on Earth was 25 percent on our steel, 15 percent on our cars, and a maybe on lumber. Nineteen months ago, all of those numbers were zero, under an agreement called CUSMA that Donald Trump negotiated, signed, and called the best trade deal in the history of the world. The generous offer was to charge us less than he'd started charging us last year. That's not a gift. That's a mugger offering to give back your watch if you hand over your wallet.

And the wallet, per Carney, was auto production, our ability to sign deals with other countries, and French-language protections in Quebec. They asked too much and offered too little. Greer's version is that Canada "wanted more." Both things can be true. That's called a negotiation, and only one side walked into it thinking it was a hostage exchange.

"Canada is joined only by China in choosing retaliation over negotiation"

This is my favourite one, because Canada has been negotiating for eighteen straight months with a government that changes its terms every time the president gets near a phone.

Yes, Canada matched the first tariffs in March 2025. Then on September 1, 2025, Ottawa dropped the counter-tariffs on most American goods as a good-faith move, keeping only steel, aluminum and autos because the Americans kept tariffing those three sectors with no CUSMA exemption. The EU threatened retaliation and folded. Mexico threatened and never fired. Canada hit back, then de-escalated, then kept sitting in Greer's office until Friday night.

Also missing from the fact sheet: the U.S. Supreme Court threw out the original emergency tariffs earlier this year. That's why the new ones are built on Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930. Smoot-Hawley. The law your economics prof used as the example of how to turn a downturn into the Great Depression. The country that "chose retaliation" is being hit with a Depression-era statute because the first round was illegal.

"Canada alone imposed 25% tariffs and company-specific quotas on U.S. vehicles, applied to no other country"

Correct. That is what a counter-tariff is.

Trump put 25 percent on Canadian-built vehicles on April 3, 2025. Carney announced a matching 25 percent on non-CUSMA-compliant American vehicles the same afternoon. Germany didn't get it because Germany didn't tariff Oshawa. The "company-specific quotas" are remission relief for automakers who keep building here, which the White House has rebranded as discrimination.

The 22 percent drop in U.S. vehicle exports is from the White House's own July fact sheet and I have no reason to doubt it. It's what happens when two countries put 25 percent on each other's cars, and one of them started it.

One more thing on this, courtesy of the CFIB: the American Section 338 tariff list titled "Motor Vehicles" contains no motor vehicles. It's cement and hockey sticks. They named a list of hockey sticks "Motor Vehicles" so the proclamation would sound like a policy.

"Canada banned American wine, beer, and spirits"

There is no ban. There is no federal law. What happened is that the provincial liquor boards, which are the retailers in most of this country, pulled American product off the shelves starting in February 2025, right around the time the president of the United States started calling us the 51st state. By December, two of ten provinces were selling it. David Eby's "not a chance in hell" is still in effect.

The 81 percent collapse is real, and again the number is the White House's own, March 2025 through February 2026. Why did "other countries face no such restrictions"? Because no other country's leader spent a year threatening to annex the customer.

And here's the part they leave out: Doug Ford spent last week getting ready to put Jack Daniel's back on LCBO shelves as a goodwill gesture. Carney told the provinces to restock as part of a deal. That offer was on the table when the Americans rewrote the terms and walked.

"Canada locks out U.S. dairy with tariffs of nearly 300%"

The over-quota tariffs are real. Somewhere between 250 and 315 percent, depending on the product. Now go read the source the White House linked for that number. It's the U.S. dairy lobby, the IDFA, and their own statement says those rates only kick in if American exports blow past the quota negotiated under USMCA. Which they usually don't. American dairy sales to Canada hit US$1.18 billion in 2024, up from $697 million in 2016. That's what a lockout looks like, apparently.

The real dispute is about how Canada hands out quota licences, and it's gone to a USMCA panel twice. The Americans won the first in January 2022. Canada won the second in November 2023. That's the dispute process Trump's own deal created, doing exactly what it was built to do.

Yes, the EU gets different quota terms under CETA. Different trade deals have different terms. And the United States runs its own dairy quotas, which the fact sheet somehow forgot to mention. Supply management was protected by a unanimous vote of the House of Commons. Carney still offered administrative changes on dairy licensing. Wasn't enough for them.

"Canada has extracted a $50 billion trade deficit from the U.S."

The USTR's own country page says the 2025 goods deficit was $48.3 billion. The same page, two sentences later, says the U.S. ran a $27.7 billion surplus with Canada in services. Add it up and the Bureau of Economic Analysis lands at about $27 billion for 2025, and it's shrinking.

Now take out energy. Canada supplies roughly 60 percent of American crude imports, 85 percent of its electricity imports, and nearly all its natural gas imports. Strip that out and the United States runs a surplus with Canada. Scotiabank put it at plus $63 billion in 2023.

Nobody extracted anything. Americans bought oil, then complained about the bill.

"Canada targeted Gulfstream (Major Trump Donor) for years"

I'll give them this one halfway, because this newsletter doesn't do the thing the White House does.

Transport Canada sat on the Gulfstream G500 and G600 for a long time. The FAA certified them in 2018. That's a legitimate gripe about a slow regulator. Trump posted on January 29, threatening to decertify Bombardier jets and slap 50 percent on every aircraft built in Canada. Ottawa cleared the G500 and G600 on February 15 and the G700 and G800 on February 23.

What they don't tell you: the FAA itself gave the G700 and G800 conditional certification in 2024 with an exemption on de-icing rules. Transport Canada says it runs cold-soak and freezing-rain tests on every aircraft, foreign or domestic, which in a country where the runway is ice four months a year is not a conspiracy. Gulfstreams registered in the States could always fly here. "Shielding Bombardier" is an accusation the White House made and never proved.

Slow, yes. Sabotage, no.

"Without the United States, Canada could not survive"

Three-quarters of our goods exports go south. True. Now the other half of the sentence. Canada is the number-one export market for 36 American states. Americans sold nearly $600 billion of goods and services to Canadians last year. We buy more American-built cars than the U.K., Japan and China combined.

They're describing an integrated economy and calling one half of it a freeloader. Ask Maine's lobster boats and Ohio's appliance plants who's carrying whom on September 8.

"Canada's failed trade policies are driving manufacturers south. 42% have moved or plan to"

The KPMG survey exists. 275 firms, polled in May. 29 percent say they've moved some or all of their production; 13 percent plan to. No margin of error published.

And what did those manufacturers say was pushing them? American tariffs and American trade uncertainty. Same survey: 61 percent say they can't survive without the U.S. market. So the White House is citing a survey of Canadian companies wrecked by Trump's tariffs as evidence that Canadian policy is the problem. It's the arsonist standing at the fire pointing at the building code.

"Canada just announced an additional $27.6 billion in tariffs on American businesses"

Sequence matters, so here it is. On Saturday at 12:01 a.m., the Americans imposed 50 percent tariffs on $27.6 billion in Canadian goods. American outlets say about $20 billion in U.S. dollars. Same pile. Tuesday, Ottawa released a list that matches it dollar for dollar, with each product taxed at the same rate Washington is charging on the Canadian version. The 50 percent on steel and aluminum mirrors the 50 percent the Americans have had on ours since June of last year.

"Doubling down" is the White House word for "answering."

"The U.S. economy is 13 times larger, with eight times the people. The U.S. has the clear leverage."

The arithmetic is fine. A big country is bigger than a smaller country. Congratulations.

Leverage is a different question. Trump announced Monday that Canadian cars and steel go to 50 percent on January 1. A trade lawyer told CBS that the first invoice lands in a Michigan showroom, not in Ottawa. That's who pays a tariff. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce put a 13-million-jobs number on this pact last week and Trump did it anyway.

The footnotes
One more thing, because it tells you everything about who wrote this. The sourcing on the twelve "FACTS" is mostly the White House citing its own July fact sheet, and the USTR citing its own tweets. The two that don't cite the White House cite a Truth Social post and a link to a Grok conversation. A Grok conversation. The official position of the United States government on Canadian auto market share is "I asked the chatbot on X."

Here's the deal

Strip out the adjectives, and this is the whole story. The Americans tariffed us. We matched. We dropped most of it to keep talking. The Supreme Court tossed their tariffs. They found a law from 1930. They offered to charge us less than they'd been charging us since last year, in exchange for our autos, our trade independence and Quebec's language laws, and when Carney said no, they went home and typed FACT twelve times.

And we simply don't GAF anymore because we ALL know it's political theatre for his braindead domestic audience.

Canadians aren't that stupid. Angus Reid had 76 percent of this country behind the walkout by Sunday. Doug Ford was on X within the hour. That's the part the fact sheet can't fix.

Trump's quote at the bottom says we "are not a State, and will be entitled no longer."

He's right about the first part. Took him nineteen months.

The Sheridan Press' most recent article published in November 2024 outlines the attorney general's office in Wyoming is working on the issue, but it remains completely legal for registered agents to do what they're doing under Wyoming Statute.

The Sheridan Press staff also encourages those victimized by scams to report the potential scam to the Better Business Bureau.

The Sheridan Press staff also encourages those victimized by scams to report the potential scam to the Better Business Bureau.

SHERIDAN — Another scam emerged this week associated with a commercial registered agent at the 30 N. Gould St. address in Sheridan.

The Better Business Bureau received 31 complaints and seven negative customer reviews regarding Galaxy Line, LLC — developers of at least three diet and exercise-focused mobile applications.

The apps, Workout & Fitness Coach, Diet & Weight Loss Tracker and Step Counter and GPS Walks, are available for download on Apple's App Store and Google Play, according to a press release from BBB.

Complainants allege a number of concerns related to this company. The majority of customers report downloading a free trial version of a Galaxy Line app and then later being charged $86.99, without notice or consent, for a membership subscription to the app.

Customers further report being unable to cancel their membership, even when attempting to do so prior to the trial period expiring.

Of the 31 complaints submitted, 11 are currently pending. A Galaxy Line representative provided responses to two complaints; however, 18 others have been closed without the business' response.

"Galaxy Line advertises an address in Sheridan, however, this appears to be a commercial registered agent's location and is not typically a physical place of business," the BBB press release said. "BBB has been unable to locate a different address or a phone number for the business.

"BBB has attempted to contact Galaxy Line via email and postal mail in regards to the pattern of complaints and to seek information regarding their business practices, structure, ownership and location. The business has not responded to our concerns at this time."

Because of an article published Nov. 25, 2020, by The Sheridan Press, Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce's Dixie Johnson said state officials are aware of the issue and are working with complaints similar to that of the Galaxy Line business in the Wyoming Attorney General's office.

"We try to keep track when people call us," Johnson said, who said in November calls had increased, but said she hasn't seen a large increase since then.

Johnson said she and her staff at the Chamber will direct those with complaints to the Better Business Bureau, sharing contact information with them, in addition to contacting Kit Wendtland at the AG's office in Cheyenne.

The BBB consumer complaint office maintains it reports complaints and provides a rating and information based on those complaints to consumers. Galaxy Line currently has an "F" rating based on complaint volume, their failure to respond to the majority of complaints and their failure to be transparent about their location, products, services and business ownership, according to the press release.

"We're trying to drive people to do business with trustworthy businesses," BBB Northern Colorado and Wyoming President and CEO Shelley Polansky said. "Part of that is exposing businesses that are getting consumer complaint activity. We investigate the companies that are generating the consumer complaints."

From the Galaxy Line complaints and one other Polansky's staff found, she said the address at 30 N. Gould St. not only has several businesses under commercial registered agents, but there are also several commercial registered agents attached to that address.

Commercial registered agents are registered agents who represent more than 10 businesses in Wyoming. In basic terms, a registered agent represents a business formed in Wyoming, must have a physical address in the state, must be at their office address during normal business hours and can be served legal documents in the event a business the agent represents gets sued, according to previous reporting from The Sheridan Press.

According to the Wyoming Secretary of State website, there are approximately 450 commercial registered agents in Wyoming, the largest of which has offices in Sheridan.

Registered Agents, Inc., located at 30 N. Gould St. in downtown Sheridan, represents an estimated 53,267 businesses, according to the Secretary of State Office.

Registered Agents, Inc., though, is just one commercial registered agent listed at that address. According to a roster on the Secretary of State website, a total of 21 commercial registered agents have offices at 30 N. Gould St.

While representatives from the Wyoming Attorney General's Office and Wyoming Secretary of State's Office were not immediately available for comment, the Secretary of State's office is currently determining if its office received complaints regarding businesses and commercial registered agents related to the 30 N. Gould St. address.

Altos Travel (www.altostravel.com) is also using the common 30 N Gould St #4000 Sheridan WY 82801 shell address for their scammy travel agency along with addresses in NC and NJ. They have been reported to the respctive Departments of Justice in each location.

Late to the party but I was looking for a Philadelphia Eagles hoodie and found one on this website. A website I had never heard of and can't find any information on it ANYWHERE. So I copy and pasted the address to Google and read some columns about several businesses listed as that address that are scams. That's how I found this. Since Oct 18 I been getting calls and voicemails from a Todd Murphy he calls me from one number and leaves his cell number. I searched up the cell number and the only thing that comes up is from dunn& Bradstreet and other business sites and the cell number is linked to irenic home LLC and they have 2 employees and the President is Todd Murphy.. he leaves voicemails and he knows my name but I have no idea who this person is. They don't even have a website. After I saw this thread now it sounds kind of sketchy I don't even wanna call back..... Anybody heard of this guy or company?

This is the address to a website who has my mugshot posted from 7 years ago.. I was only arrested, all charges were dropped and I never even went to court. It's the first thing that comes up on Facebook and Google when you search my name.. It says to send certified mail to this address to have them delete it but it seems like it would just be a lost cause..

Sheridan Wyoming has loads of shell companies. Some of the worst are all registered to 30 N Gould St Ste R, Sheridan, WY 82801. The companies running from this address are ones like Farmhouse Holdings LLC that are used to shield criminal property holdings in various states. This address is also registered to Galaxy Lines LLC which has been defrauding fitness customers in various states. In fact there are 53,267 business agents that are operating under this address.

Partlocator.us is another scam registered to this address. They tried to sell me an engine for my car for $300. It sounded too good to be. I called the Wyoming Secretary of State and they know of no such business!

One Amazon review, one star, says her dogs were throwing up all night. I wanted to see if it was a legit product as I desperately need the powdered version of this med instead of the liquid.

The address is Corporate Filings LLC. They are a legitimate business that offers registered agent services in various states. Essentially, businesses pay them to use their address to receive mail and legal documents for their business. It's very easy to create a company in Wyoming, and there are tax, legal, and privacy benefits of doing so. But because it's so easy, many of the businesses who hire Corporate Filings are scammers.

Fischer, Guttenberg, Baerbock,...


Drahtzieher unter sich - universitös. Mit akademischen Ehren (selbst Landadel gibt es ja nicht mehr) und Honorar. Das Leben der herrschenden Politischen Klasse (TM Aydan Özoguz, SPD) ist schon etwas besonderes.

Was haben die "Studenten" davon, der Frau Baerbock zuzuhören, oder dem Herrn Guttenberg, oder, schon länger her, dem Herrn Fischer, allesamt (zumindest temporär) ausgemusterte deutsche Politikpersonen? Was sollen die von denen LERNEN können?

Glaubt jemand wirklich, DASS man von Fischer, Guttenberg und Baerbock etwas lernen könnte?

Ich denke, daß nicht. Auf gar keinen Fall.

Denn es geht um ganz etwas anderes: darum, direkt an diese Personen heranzukommen. Donald Trump und auch deutsche Politiker lassen sich für Abendessen bezahlen, bei denen man mit ihnen reden darf. Je nach Rangstufe entsprechend teuer...

Es geht um den direkten Kontakt: Verbindungen aufnehmen, Drähte knüpfen. So wie sich seit Jahrzehnten Studenten bei Seminaren der politischen Stiftungen (Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, usw) treffen und zumindest teilweise dann mit einander in Kontakt BLEIBEN, genau so ist es bei diesen "Professoren" auch. Ein bekannter Name dient als Magnet für ein Speed-Dating, sowohl mit diesen Professoren (und ihren Drähten) als auch bei den "Studenten" dieser "Professoren" untereinander. Man profitiert von Bekanntheit und Ruhm dieser und der Anderen.

Vielleicht sollte man diese Art der Kontaktbörsen umbenennen - und die Universitäten aus dieser Funktion entfernen. Die Akademia ist keine Kontakbörse.

Weber enttarnte so manchen akademischen Hochstapler in politischen Ämtern. Die Plagiatssuche hat der Wissenschaftler, der nie eine Professur bekam, zum Geschäft gemacht. Aber ist nur das Geld seine Motivation?

Der ,,Plagiatsjäger" Stefan Weber spielt nach den Regeln der Aufmerksamkeitsökonomie. Er weiß sich den Nachrichtenhunger der Medien zunutze zu machen: Seine Vorwürfe veröffentlicht er so, dass sie maximale Durchschlagskraft entfalten. Ob im Fall der US‑Präsidentschaftskandidatin Kamala Harris, oder jetzt gegen Berlins Justizsenatorin Felor Badenberg (CDU) – Stefan Weber hat schon dutzenden Politikern vorgeworfen, in ihrer Doktorarbeit getäuscht zu haben. Meist genau im Wahlkampf oder im Vorfeld wichtiger politischer Ereignisse.

Ignorieren lässt sich dies nicht, dafür sind die Aufdeckungen zu gewichtig: etwa in einer Bundestagswahl, vor der Berufung einer Verfassungsrichterin, oder wie jetzt kurz vor der Wahl des Berliner Abgeordnetenhauses.

Der österreichische Kommunikationswissenschaftler lebt davon, in wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten und Büchern abgeschriebene Textstellen nachzuweisen. Seine Gutachten würden im Schnitt 3000 Euro kosten, sagte er der ,,Zeit"; einmal habe er 24.000 Euro bekommen. Kontaktieren würden ihn oft Anwälte, weil die eigentlichen Auftraggeber anonym bleiben wollten.

Technisch gründliche Prüfung

,,Herr Weber dokumentiert im Allgemeinen sehr gründlich", sagt Gerhard Dannemann. Der Juraprofessor von der Humboldt-Universität Berlin ist auch bei ,,VroniPlag Wiki" aktiv, die von ehrenamtlichen Plagiatssuchenden getragen wird. ,,Man kann sich in aller Regel darauf verlassen, dass die dokumentierten Stellen sich so in der untersuchten Arbeit und der vermuteten Quelle finden lassen." Andere aus der Szene der Plagiatsprüfer teilen gegenüber dem Tagesspiegel diese Einschätzung.

Hat Berlins Justizsenatorin geschummelt? ,,Badenberg schreibt oft aus der Rechtsprechung ab, was aber kein Plagiat ist"

Weber verwendet für seine Prüfungen spezielle Software wie ,,Turnitin Similarity", die über einen Korpus von Milliarden von Texten verfügt: Inhalte aus dem Internet, wissenschaftliche Aufsätze, Bücher und studentische Arbeiten. Das Programm gleicht die fraglichen Stellen damit ab und spuckt Übereinstimmungen aus.

Die Fundstellen müssen Weber und sein sechsköpfiges Team anhand der Originalquellen einzeln prüfen: ob es sich um ein Zitat handelt, wie viel übernommen wurde, ob es ordnungsgemäß gekennzeichnet wurde. Alle Funde werden nach einem ,,Vier-Augen-Prinzip" verifiziert, schreibt Weber auf seiner Website.

Fragwürdige Einordnung

Manche kritisieren jedoch, dass Weber die Zahl der Plagiate in einer Arbeit absichtlich in die Höhe treibe. Er würde bei seinen Funden längere Abschnitte, die abgeschrieben sind, willkürlich in mehrere Fundstellen unterteilen, merkte etwa der Plagiatsexperte Jochen Zenthöfer zu Webers Badenberg-Gutachten an, über das der Tagesspiegel berichtete.

Auch wie Weber seine Funde inszeniert, lässt Zweifel an der Seriosität aufkommen. In den Medien und auf seinem Blog lässt er sich in markigen Worten darüber aus. Über Felor Badenbenbergs Doktorarbeit urteilte er: ,,Mit (rechts-)wissenschaftlichem Arbeiten hat das alles nicht einmal am Rande etwas zu tun." Den thüringischen Ministerpräsidenten Mario Voigt (CDU) bezeichnete Weber als ,,Wissenschaftssimulant".

,,Wir liegen in letzter Zeit zunehmend auseinander bei der Bewertung, was als Plagiat zu werten ist und was nicht", sagt Dannemann. ,,Da ist bei ihm für meinen Geschmack etwas zu viel Belastungseifer, in letzter Zeit auch politisches Kalkül im Spiel."

Was ist ein Plagiat?

Wer Inhalte, Ideen oder Formulierungen von anderen übernimmt und sie ohne ausreichende Quellenangabe als eigene Leistung ausgibt, begeht ein Plagiat. Dies umfasst auch sinngemäße Übernahmen, Übersetzungen oder Argumentationsstrukturen.

Ein Plagiat kann bewusst begangen werden oder durch Nachlässigkeit entstehen. Für die Bewertung ist entscheidend, wie umfangreich und systematisch Material kopiert wurde und ob eine Täuschungsabsicht erkennbar ist. Dennoch ist ,,Plagiat" kein einheitlich definierter Rechtsbegriff. Je nach Fall können das Urheber-, Prüfungs-, Hochschul- oder das Arbeitsrecht berührt sein.

Untersuchungskommissionen an den Unis bewerten Plagiatsvorwürfe anhand eigener Regeln und Verfahren und haben großen Ermessensspielraum. Diese Prüfungen sind in der Regel nicht öffentlich. Kritiker monieren, dass Entscheidungen so für Außenstehende nicht nachzuvollziehen sind.

Bei ,,VroniPlag Wiki", wo Dannemann sich beteiligt, müssen mindestens zwei Personen unabhängig voneinander eine verdächtige Textstelle dokumentieren, die anschließend diskutiert wird. Veröffentlicht werden nach eigenen Angaben nur solche mit Substanz. .

Nicht jede ungekennzeichnete Textübernahme gilt automatisch als Plagiat (siehe Infobox). Im Fall der Berliner Justizsenatorin ignorierte Weber offenbar, dass in den Rechtswissenschaften bestimmte Formulierungen als ,,Allgemeingut" gelten und man Gesetzestexte fast wortgleich verwenden kann, ohne sie direkt zitieren zu müssen.

Der Wissenschaftler, der keine Professur bekam

Angesichts der Masse an Texten, in denen der ,,Plagiatsjäger" porträtiert oder interviewt wird, ist klar: Die Selbstvermarktung geht auf. Webers Eigenbeschreibung ist aber, wie bei allen Medienprofis, mit Vorsicht zu genießen.

Weber beschreibt sich als einen Forscher (,,ich nenne meine Arbeit auch Quellenarchäologie"), den allein die Suche nach Erkenntnis und Wahrheit antreibe. ,,Blog der Ehrlichkeit" hat er seine Website betitelt. Auf die Frage, ob ihn bei der Prüfung von Politiker-Publikationen der Wunsch antreibe, Macht auszuüben und Karrieren zu verhindern, antwortete er der ,,FAZ", es sei ,,reines Interesse".

Man kann Weber, auch wenn sein Fehlersuchen wohl ein lukratives Geschäft ist, noch immer zu den Akademikern zählen, die sich für wissenschaftliche Integrität einsetzen.

Andere Plagiatssucher halten aber Distanz zu ihm. Der Jurist Dannemann etwa sieht Webers Vorgehen in den Fällen Mario Voigt und Brosius-Gersdorf kritisch. Beide Prüfungen waren von der AfD beauftragt. Dannemann sagt, Weber habe die Vorwürfe ,,so kurz vor einer politischen Wahlentscheidung publik gemacht, dass fast keine Zeit einer Reaktion blieb".

16 Mal wurden nach Webers Angaben infolge seiner Plagiatsprüfungen Doktortitel aberkannt.

Im Fall Alexandra Föderl-Schmidt nahm die Plagiatsjagd ein dramatisches Ende. Weber warf der damals stellvertretenden Chefredakteurin der ,,Süddeutschen Zeitung" vor, ,,ihre Karriere auf der Lebenslüge einer plagiierten Doktorarbeit" aufgebaut zu haben. Die Zeitung stellte sie vorerst von ihren Aufgaben frei. Förderl-Schmidt wurde vermisst gemeldet – und wurde dann stark verkühlt unter einer Brücke gefunden. Das rechte Portal ,,Nius" hatte Weber für das Gutachten bezahlt.

Auf die Folgen hin angesprochen, äußerte er sich in der Presse betroffen.

In Webers Kritik am unsauberen Arbeiten, an Betrügereien und Wegsehen in der Akademia mischten sich zuletzt auch kulturpessimistische, rechtspopulistische und muslimfeindliche Töne. Er beklagt sich etwa über ,,Wokeismus", spricht über ,,Mainstream-Medien", und hält es für einen ,,Weg in die Diktatur", dass die EU erwägt, Jugendlichen unter 13 Jahren Internetnutzung ohne Aufsicht zu verbieten.

Prüfstellen für die Wissenschaft

Hierzulande bietet das Ombudsgremium für die wissenschaftliche Integrität in Deutschland bei Konflikten mit Bezug zur guten wissenschaftlichen Praxis vertrauliche Beratung und Vermittlung an und prüft Arbeiten bei Verdacht auf Plagiat.

In Österreich, wo Stefan Weber geboren ist, gibt es ebenfalls eine nationale Agentur für wissenschaftliche Integrität, die mit externen Gutachtern arbeitet. Auch sie arbeitet vertraulich. Es geht darum, die juristisch schwer nachweisbare Täuschungsabsicht zu prüfen. Dabei werden die Zitierstandards der jeweiligen Fächer berücksichtigt.

Laut der Ankündigung des Westend Verlags geht es in Webers 2027 erscheinendem neuen Buch (,,Wissen statt Woke") um dessen ,,Erfahrungen mit dem Linksruck an österreichischen und deutschen Universitäten und dem Siegeszug der zweifelhaften Gender Studies". Seit den 68ern herrsche an den Unis ,,Ideologie statt Empirie, Haltung statt Fakten, Diversität statt Qualität", lautet dort die These.

Dass der habilitierte Kommunikationswissenschaftler selbst von den Unis abgewiesen wurde, ist bekannt: Mehrfach soll er sich um eine Professur beworben haben, nie hat es geklappt.

Nähe zu Rechtspopulisten?

Weber betont zwar immer wieder, dass die politische Einstellung seiner Kunden für ihn unerheblich sei; er habe Aufträge von den Grünen, den Linken und der AfD angenommen.

Es fällt aber auf: Bislang sind von ihm keine Plagiatsvorwürfe gegen Spitzenpolitiker von AfD oder FPÖ, der rechtsnationalen Partei in Österreich, bekannt.

Auch hat Weber keine Scheu, zusammen mit Vertretern des extremrechten Spektrums öffentlich aufzutreten, etwa im Mai dieses Jahres auf einem Podium mit dem thüringischen AfD‑Chef Björn Höcke. Er habe seinen Vortrag im Juni 2026 beim ,,Freiheitlichen Akademikerverband Salzburg" sehr wohl gehalten, verkündete er in seinem Blog. Zuvor hieß es in der ,,FAZ" irrtümlich, Weber habe den Vortrag abgesagt, nachdem ein Bekannter ihm mitgeteilt habe, der Verein sei rechtsextrem.

Der Tagesspiegel hatte Stefan Weber für diesen Artikel angefragt, um sich unter anderem nach seiner Motivation bei den Plagiatssuchen, seiner politischen Einstellung und seiner Haltung zur AfD zu erkundigen (siehe Infobox). Weber antwortete darauf lediglich: ,,Lecken Sie mich bitte am Arsch. Diese Fragen haben mit Journalismus nichts zu tun, das ist politische Agitation." Er beantwortete keine der sechs Fragen.

Die Fragen des Tagesspiegels

Folgende Fragen stellte die Redaktion Stefan Weber. Damit wollte sie ihm auch Gelegenheit geben, sich zu Punkten zu äußern, die in Presseberichten und Interviews thematisiert wurden.

    Was ist Ihre Motivation und was Ihr Ziel, wenn Sie Publikationen von Politiker:innen nicht auf Auftrag hin, sondern aus Eigeninteresse prüfen?
    Wie verhalten Sie sich dazu, dass die Journalistin Förderl-Schmidt infolge Ihrer Vorwürfe in eine schwere psychische Krise geriet?
    Haben Sie schon mal wissenschaftliche Arbeiten oder andere Publikationen geprüft, die von AfD-Mitgliedern oder AfD-Funktionären verfasst worden sind? (Falls ja: Zu welchem Ergebnis kam die Prüfung?)
    Viele Medien unterstellen Ihnen eine Nähe zum politisch rechten Rand oder zur AfD. Wie stehen Sie zur AfD? Möchten Sie uns etwas zu Ihrer politischen Einstellung mitteilen?
    Warum veröffentlichen Sie Ihre Gutachten/Vorwürfe in der Regel kurz vor Wahlen oder wichtigen politischen Entscheidungen?

Durchmischte Bilanz

Nach eigenen Angaben hat Weber 1000 Arbeiten geprüft, mehr als hundert davon habe er als Plagiate eingestuft. 16 akademische Grade wurden demnach rechtskräftig aberkannt, darunter die der österreichischen Arbeitsministerin Christine Aschbacher oder des thüringischne Ministerpräsidenten Mario Voigt (CDU).

Anders bei Grünen-Politiker Robert Habeck, dem damaligen Bundestagspräsidenten Norbert Lammert (CDU) oder Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf, ehemals Kandidatin für das Amt einer Verfassungsrichterin: In diesen Fällen bestätigten die Unis die Plagiatsvorwürfe nicht.

90 Mal oder öfter wurde nach der Plagiatsprüfung durch ,,VroniPlag Wiki" ein Doktortitel aberkannt.

,,VroniPlag Wiki" scheint eine bessere Trefferquote zu haben, was den Titelentzug nach Plagiatsprüfung betrifft. Mindestens 90 Personen wurde nach der Arbeit der Plattform der Doktor aberkannt. Lässt man sich als Stichprobe die Liste der geprüften Arbeiten nach Einrichtungen ordnen, sieht man: In allen fünf der an der Freien Universität geprüften Fälle wurde der Doktor entzogen. An der Humboldt-Universität sind es zwei von sieben, an der Charité verlor eine zweistellige Zahl von Akademikern ihren ,,Dr. med".

Dass die Qualitätssicherung in der Wissenschaft ausbaufähig ist, diese Kritik ist in der Szene anschlussfähig. Webers Wirken bietet den Anlass, bei Vorzeigekarrieren genauer hinzusehen – auch das kann man begrüßen.

Wenn Webers Enthüllungen aber nur selten dazu führen, dass Unis Titel aberkennen, lässt sich das nicht mit einem zu großen Spielraum erklären, den die Gutachter haben. Es spricht eher dafür, dass Webers Vorwürfe bei genauerer Betrachtung oft in sich zusammenfallen.

Dieser selbst sieht sich auch hier von den Unis betrogen. Der ,,Tiroler Tageszeitung" sagte er mal, es sei ein ,,fortgesetzter Rechtsbruch, wenn die Titel trotz meiner Beweise bestehen bleiben".

Was hier wie ein Leistungsvergleich, also als ein NACHWEIS der Qualität des Kritikers, dargestellt wird, ist schlichtweg eine hinterhältige Frechheit.

Entscheidend für den Entzug des Doktortitels sind IN DER MASSE folgende Dinge:

1. Das, was überhaupt untersucht wird.

Wenn es eine Untersuchung ergibt, diese aber kein Plagiat findet, dann findet sie eben keines.

Wenn ein Analytiker einen Text zur Analyse bekommt, dann bekommt er ihn eben. WAS er als Analysematerial bekommt, sagt nichts über seine Qualität aus.



2. Wenn ein Plagiat gefunden wird, liegt es  an der Universität, wie diese damit umgeht. Darauf hat der Kritiker keinen Einfluß, sondern die innere Wagenburg der Universität und die Schwere des Plagiats.

Wenn also 2 oder mehrere Analytiker sich des Plagiats verdächtige Texte vornehmen, dann ist das aus einem riesigen Haufen von Texten eine Auswahl. Was in diese Auswahl hineinkommt, ist das, was hineinkommt. Was hineinkommt, sagt nicht das mindeste über die Qualität des Analytikers aus.

Wenn eine Universität einen Doktortitel aberkennt, sagt das nicht nur etwas über den untersuchten Text aus, sondern vor allem auch über die Integrität dieser Universität. Auf die hat der Kritiker keinen Einfluß.

Mit anderen Worten: Was der Tagesspiegel wahrheitswidrig als einen Leistungsvergleich darstellt, ist in Wahrheit akuter Blödsinn der Redaktion. Hieß es nicht einmal, in längst vergangenen Zeiten, ein Zeitungsverlag hätte eine Schlußredaktion? Vielleicht sollten wir die, falls überhaupt noch vohanden, interviewen...?

California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed into law a bill that critics say is designed to silence citizen journalists like Nick Shirley and let taxpayer-funded organizations, some of them suspected of fraud, remove documentation of their activities from the internet.

The law, which was signed on Saturday [4] and goes into effect on October 1, 2027, is officially there to protect the privacy of employees and volunteers working in organizations serving immigrants, but the way it does it is by giving them the power to demand that their images and personal information be deleted from the internet, based on a claim of "reasonable fear."

No police report or court approval is needed for this, only the claim.
There is no exemption for journalists or journalism [5].

The bill, which was authored by Democrat Assemblywoman Mia Bonta [6], was dubbed the "Stop Nick Shirley Act" [7] by those opposing it, as it is seen as a direct attack on his work.

Shirley has been investigating and documenting alleged fraud in programs meant to help immigrants, and has had millions of views on X for his videos, including one showing empty buildings in Minnesota [8] registered as daycares that he said were used to defraud the system of $110 million.

The new law in California will apply to all organizations providing legal representation, advocacy, case management, humanitarian relief, translation, counseling, and healthcare to immigrants. It also sets up an address confidentiality program, modeled on California's Safe at Home program [9].

Those who don't comply with the demands for content removal can be fined $10,000 [10] and also face civil and criminal liability and imprisonment.

Shirley responded to the signing [11] of the bill into law by saying that it was created only after he exposed fraud in immigrant communities, and accused Newsom and California politicians of showing their true face as "corrupt politicians" who, "when the fraud is exposed, create new laws to protect the fraudsters and penalize those who expose it."

He also said that the law makes "immigration support service providers" a protected class in California, and noted that thanks to this, if he films a hospice "with no patients that are receiving millions through Medicaid," the owner can prevent him from publishing the footage, and if he does anyway, he could get a huge fine.

Jagd auf die Kritiker


Wenn Jemand Journalisten kritisiert - sofort wird die Wagenburg sichtbar, sofort gibt es Gegenfeuer, sofort kommt aus den finstersten Löchern Kriechgetier.

Okay, das kennen wir. Politiker sind auch so. Und andere auch.

Aber das jetzt, das ist eine Bruderschaft ganz anderer Art: Politiker werden kritisiert - und schon feuern Journalisten auf die Kritiker. Die Journalisten, obgleich in ihrer verlogenen Welt strengstens neutral und "sie machen sich nicht mit einer Sache gemein", fallen über die Kritiker her. Anstatt sich die Kritik anzusehen, anstatt sie INHALTLICH zu be- und verarbeiten, fallen sie über die PERSON des Kritikers her.


Ein aktuelles Beispiel, der "Plagiatsjäger", Herr Weber, im Visier von Journalisten:

Ich decke ein Plagiat nach dem anderen in den bundesdeutschen Regierungen auf, und das sind die Fragen der laut Eigenangabe promovierten Redaktöse (meine Formulierung ist hier Absicht!) des #Tagesspiegel.

Nicht einmal den Namen der Kollegin von der SZ konnte sie richtig schreiben. Solche Fragen sind reine politische Agitation, jeder merkt sofort, woher der Wind weht.

* NDR/Medienmagazin ZAPP

Das sind hasserfüllte Aktivisten. Mit Journalismus hat das nicht einmal am Rande etwas zu tun. Insofern passen sie eh gut in ein System, das eine Doktorarbeit wie die von Frau Badenberg hervorgebracht hat, die auch mit redlicher Wissenschaft nichts zu tun hat.
